Thinking about pursuing a second bachelor's degree? Before starting the process, decide whether a bachelor's degree is what you want and not a master's. If you decide on a second bachelor's degree then there are a few very important things to remember:
Be sure to look at schools that allow second bachelor's degrees. Not every school is open to giving out second degrees so be sure to research this before applying. Some schools only allow certain programs to give out second bachelor's degrees and other schools do not admit Bachelor's degree holders into their bachelor's programs at all. Determine what schools you wish to apply to and do some more research on the entrance qualifications of each school. Every school is different and that they each have their own unique entrance requirements.
Every school has entrance qualifications that prospective students must meet before being admitted. These may include test scores and will likely require a certain GPA from your first bachelor's degree. They could also include an essay or other types of non-traditional entrance assessment. Of course, you will also have to complete an application and pay a nominal fee. Usually this fee is minimal and can be paid online. Almost every school permits online application. Be sure to apply for a school as soon as you know that you would like to attend. Earlier application dates mean earlier acceptance and often you will get more consideration from the school for financial aid and scholarships. In addition to the small application fee, there is no penalty for applying to a school and not actually enrolling. Even if you are not sure whether you want to attend that particular school, you may want to apply just in case. There are also online degree programs you can choose from. If the school accepts you then you are always allowed to turn the offer down. It is better to have several offers from different schools and be able to make a good choice, rather than worry about getting rejected and having to pick another school at the very last second.
After applying, you will probably be notified of acceptance shortly thereafter. Every school has a different policy for when they notify accepted students. Hopefully you will have several different schools to choose from and can compare schools based on things such as the amount of financial aid offered, the distance to the school, and the cost of living. Something to consider when you are deciding on a school is that some schools require more completed credit hours than others, so it may take you longer to complete a degree at one school than another. You may even find schools that will transfer credits towards your second degree. It may be difficult to find these schools, however.
The best thing that you can do is start to research schools well before the semester starts. This will ensure that you get the best education for your dollar. Give yourself plenty of time, and you will enjoy your search for a university or online degree university to complete your second degree.
