It’s a known fact that many people hesitate before going to college because of the overwhelming financial relationship that comes with the territory. It’s definitely a good idea to turn to the school’s financial aid department for information about applying for grants and loans, but don’t completely rule out the idea of scholarships! I’ve come to realize that very few people know how much scholarship money is made available to college students, and a lot of those funds sit there waiting to find an owner each year.
Before my freshman year of college, I applied for a scholarship that I didn't expect to receive. I'm so glad that I took the 30 minutes to fill out that application form because I was awarded the scholarship, waiving my tuition for all 4 years. How does this personal story apply to you? Hopefully it helps you understand how realistic it is to receive scholarship money no matter the listed qualifications!
November is National Scholarship Month, sponsored by the National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA). Whether you’re a current student or future student, be proactive! Start researching national and local scholarships that appeal to your needs.
