It’s a known fact that many people hesitate before going to college because of the overwhelming financial relationship that comes with the territory. It’s definitely a good idea to turn to the school’s financial aid department for information about applying for grants and loans, but don’t completely rule out the idea of scholarships! I’ve come to realize that very few people know how much scholarship money is made available to college students, and a lot of those funds sit there waiting to find an owner each year.
Last week, a North Carolina Governor proclaimed November 15-19 to be “College Application Week” for residents of the state. Students who apply to any North Carolina college throughout the week will be assisted by academic advisors, and a majority of the colleges will be waiving normal application fees during the allotted time frame.
Are you hesitant to attend college because of tuition rumors? Higher tuitions mean that undergraduate and graduate students alike are finding it more difficult to obtain their degree. Don’t be discouraged by the fact that public universities across the country are raising tuition fees, because in many cases, financial aid is adjusted to match tuition increases.
Only a handful of years ago, embarking on the college application process was quite mundane. Imagine sitting at a kitchen table cluttered with college guide books the size of novels, flipping through brochure after brochure containing the same information about each school: average GPA, acceptance rates and degree programs. So what did people base their decisions on back then – whichever college had the highest amount of students? How nice the campus appeared on the brochure cover? Boring!
